What Dental Services Are Covered?
Here are some of the dental services covered under the CDCP:
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) provides coverage for a wide range of essential dental services to help Canadians maintain good oral health at an affordable cost. The program is designed to make preventive, diagnostic, and restorative dental care more accessible for those without private insurance — ensuring that everyone can get the treatment they need for a healthy smile.

Routine Dental Checkups and Cleanings
X-rays and Diagnostic Exams
Dental Fillings and Restorations
Root Canal Treatments (When Eligible)
Tooth Extractions
Crowns & Dentures
The plan also helps eligible patients access services for Dental Crowns and Dentures, depending on the nature of the case. Pre-Determinations are required to confirm coverage. Coverage amounts and eligibility for specific procedures may vary depending on your household income and the CDCP fee guide established by the Government of Canada.
Some services may require pre-authorization or may be covered only at a specific percentage of the total cost. At Peaks Family Dentistry, our team will provide your treatment options, direct bill to SunLife, and help answer any questions you may have about the process.

Managed by Health Canada and Sun Life, the program provides coverage that can be used at participating CDCP dental clinics across the country. How to Use Your CDCP Coverage at Our Office ?
Using your Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) benefits at Peaks Family Dentistry is simple:
Confirm your eligibility and that you’ve received your CDCP card from Sun Life.
Bring your CDCP information to your dental appointment.
Our team will submit your claim directly to the CDCP on your behalf.
You’ll only pay any remaining balance if your treatment exceeds the plan’s coverage amount.
Our team is happy to help you navigate your coverage and explain what portion of your visit will be covered. If you’d like to confirm your coverage and/or out of pocket expenses, please let our team know so that we can request a pre-determination on your behalf before your appointment.
In addition to Collingwood, we also accept patients from Wasaga Beach, Thornbury, Clearview, Stayner, Meaford, Angus, Shelburne and surrounding areas.
Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) Fee Guide vs Ontario Dental Association (ODA) Fee Guide
What does this mean for patients with Canadian Dental Care Plan coverage? This means that even when the government mentions 100% coverage on your plan, it’s 100% coverage of the CDCP Fee Guide, not the ODA Fee Guide. It also means that there will always be some form of out of pocket expense. As there are hundreds of different dental procedure codes, it’s difficult to provide even a relatively accurate estimate for the ‘difference between the ODA Fee Guide and CDCP Fee Guide’.
If concerned, it’s best to request a Pre-Determination for your upcoming treatment well in advance of your appointment.
